As recorded by Zach Williams
(2024 release)
[Intro]
C
[Verse 1]
C
I'm a simple man
G
With dust on these cracked and calloused hands
F
I ain't rich enough to buy myself a chance
C
Like everybody else
G
I got a twisted, broken story I could tell
F
Paved the road to hell with stones I laid myself
Am
And I built it all too well
[Chorus]
F
Well I know what I've done
F
And if judgment should come
C
I couldn't face it
G
On my own
F
But the Savior stepped in
Am
Saw the worst of my sin and just erased it
G C
Guess you could say I've got a friend in high places
[Verse 2]
C
Yeah I'm livin proof
G
What a carpenter from Nazareth can do
F
How a hammer and a nail can make things new
C
And I don't know why He cared
G
Enough to turn His head and hear my prayer
F
Leave Heaven when He could have just stayed there
Am
It really don't seem fair
G
No it don't seem fair
[Chorus]
F
Cause I know what I've done
F
And if judgment should come
C
I couldn't face it
G
On my own
F
But the Savior stepped in
Am
Saw the worst of my sin and just erased it
G C
Guess you could say I've got a friend in high places
[Harmonca Solo]
Am F C Am F C
[Chorus]
F
Yes I know what I've done
F
And if judgment should come
C
I couldn't face it
G
On my own
F
But the Savior stepped in
Am
Saw the worst of my sin and just erased it
G F
I guess you could say I've got a friend in high places
[Outro]
C
If you need a friend
G
Who ain't scared of what you've done or where you've been
F
Just open up the door and let Him in
C
If you need a friend
